Ohio Tint Law — Know Before You Tint

50% VLT MAX
Front side windows
70% VLT MAX
Windshield below the top strip (the strip above the AS-1 line carries no darkness limit)

Ohio law — Ohio Revised Code § 4513.241 and Ohio Administrative Code 4501-41-03. Front side windows must let at least half the light through, and the windshield must let at least 70% of light through below its top strip. Rear side windows and the rear windshield may go as dark as you like; if the rear windshield is tinted below 50%, Ohio requires outside mirrors on both sides. VLT is visible light transmission — the lower the number, the darker the film. We install to legal limits and will walk you through your options before any film goes on.

Tint Care Questions

The things drivers ask most after fresh film goes on.

How dark can I legally tint in Ohio?

Ohio's rule is laid out in the tint law band above: 50% VLT MAX on the front side windows, and 70% VLT MAX on the windshield below the top strip. Rear side windows and the rear windshield may go darker — and if the rear windshield is tinted below 50%, Ohio requires outside mirrors on both sides. We'll confirm the legal shade for your vehicle before any film goes on.

How long should I wait before rolling down my windows after tinting?

Follow the aftercare guidance provided by the installer. Cure time can vary with the film and the weather, so the shop will give you the right timing for your installation.

Why does my new tint look hazy or bubbly?

A hazy look and small water pockets are a normal part of curing — the film is applied wet, and the moisture works its way out as it dries. It clears on its own over the curing period. Don't press on the bubbles; let them dry out.

Does window film go on the inside or outside of the window?

Automotive window film is normally installed on the inside surface of the glass, where it is protected from weather and road debris.

How should I clean tinted windows?

Use a soft microfiber cloth and a tint-safe cleaner. Avoid abrasive tools, and ask the installer which products they recommend for your specific film.

Can you help me choose the right shade?

Yes. The shop can help you balance appearance, privacy, heat control, visibility, and Ohio's tint laws before installation.
