Maine law — Title 29-A M.R.S. § 1916. Every side window and the rear window must let at least 35% of light through. One exception: side windows behind the driver's seat and the rear window may go darker when the vehicle carries two outside rearview mirrors, one on each side. The windshield may not be treated with anything that cuts light below the factory glass, apart from a strip above the AS-1 line, and reflective film is not allowed. Aftermarket tint needs a light-transmittance certificate — the shop handles that paperwork with your install. VLT is visible light transmission — the lower the number, the darker the film. We install to legal limits and will walk you through your options before any film goes on.
The things drivers ask most after fresh film goes on.
Maine's rule is laid out in the tint law band above: 35% VLT MAX on the front side windows, the rear side windows, and the rear windshield — with one exception: glass behind the driver's seat may go darker when the vehicle has two outside rearview mirrors. We'll confirm the legal shade for your vehicle before any film goes on.
Follow the aftercare guidance provided by the installer. Cure time can vary with the film and the weather, so the shop will give you the right timing for your installation.
A hazy look and small water pockets are a normal part of curing — the film is applied wet, and the moisture works its way out as it dries. It clears on its own over the curing period. Don't press on the bubbles; let them dry out.
Automotive window film is normally installed on the inside surface of the glass, where it is protected from weather and road debris.
Use a soft microfiber cloth and a tint-safe cleaner. Avoid abrasive tools, and ask the installer which products they recommend for your specific film.
Yes. The shop can help you balance appearance, privacy, heat control, visibility, and Maine's tint laws before installation.
