New York law — Vehicle and Traffic Law § 375 (12-a), checked at your annual inspection. The windshield and front side windows must let at least 70% of light through — 70% VLT MAX — and on passenger cars (sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, hardtops, convertibles, and station wagons) the rear side windows must meet the same limit. The rear window must also let at least 70% through, unless the vehicle has outside mirrors on both sides. On SUVs, trucks, and vans, the windows behind the front seats may go darker. Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top six inches of the windshield only. VLT is visible light transmission — the lower the number, the darker the film. We install to legal limits and will walk you through your options before any film goes on.

How dark can I legally tint in New York?
New York's rule is laid out in the tint law band above: 70% VLT MAX on the front side windows — and the same limit on the rear side windows of passenger cars. SUVs, trucks, and vans may go darker behind the front seats, and a tinted rear window requires outside mirrors on both sides. We'll confirm the legal shade for your vehicle before any film goes on.
How long should I wait before rolling down my windows after tinting?
Follow the aftercare guidance provided by the installer. Cure time can vary with the film and the weather, so the shop will give you the right timing for your installation.
Why does my new tint look hazy or bubbly?
A hazy look and small water pockets are a normal part of curing — the film is applied wet, and the moisture works its way out as it dries. It clears on its own over the curing period. Don't press on the bubbles; let them dry out.
Does window film go on the inside or outside of the window?
Automotive window film is normally installed on the inside surface of the glass, where it is protected from weather and road debris.
How should I clean tinted windows?
Use a soft microfiber cloth and a tint-safe cleaner. Avoid abrasive tools, and ask the installer which products they recommend for your specific film.
