Illinois law (625 ILCS 5/12-503) ties your front side windows to your rear windows: keep the rear glass at 35% VLT or lighter and the front sides can match at 35%. If the rear windows are darker — between 30% and 35% — or came tinted from the factory, the front sides stay at 50%. The windshield allows only a nonreflective strip across the top 6 inches, front film must be nonreflective, and readings get a 5% variance. VLT is visible light transmission — the lower the number, the darker the film. We install to legal limits and will walk you through your options before any film goes on.
The things drivers ask most after fresh film goes on.
Illinois' rule is laid out in the tint law band above: the front side windows can go to 35% VLT MAX when the rear windows are 35% or lighter, and stay at 50% VLT MAX when the rear windows are darker or factory tinted. Windshield film is limited to a nonreflective strip across the top 6 inches. We'll confirm the legal shade for your vehicle before any film goes on.
Follow the aftercare guidance provided by the installer. Cure time can vary with the film and weather, so the shop will give you the right timing for your installation.
A hazy look and small water pockets are a normal part of curing — the film is applied wet, and the moisture works its way out as it dries. It clears on its own over the curing period. Don't press on the bubbles; let them dry out.
Use a soft microfiber cloth and a tint-safe cleaner. Avoid abrasive tools and ask the installer which products they recommend for your specific film.
Automotive window film is normally installed on the inside surface of the glass, where it is protected from weather and road debris.
