California law — Vehicle Code § 26708. The front side windows are the strict ones: any film applied there must be clear and let at least 88% of light through on its own, and the glass and film together must let at least 70% through — so only clear, nearly invisible UV and heat-rejection film is legal up front. Rear side windows may go as dark as you like. The rear windshield may go as dark as you like when the vehicle has an outside mirror on each side. The windshield may carry only a non-reflective strip across the top. VLT is visible light transmission — the lower the number, the darker the film. We install to legal limits and will walk you through your options before any film goes on.
The things drivers ask most after fresh film goes on.
California's rule is laid out in the tint law band above: the front side windows are limited to 70% VLT MAX — the glass and film together must let at least 70% of light through, and any film there must be clear and nearly invisible. Rear side windows and the rear windshield may go as dark as you like. We'll confirm the legal shade for your vehicle before any film goes on.
Follow the aftercare guidance provided by the installer. Cure time can vary with the film and the weather, so the shop will give you the right timing for your installation.
A hazy look and small water pockets are a normal part of curing — the film is applied wet, and the moisture works its way out as it dries. It clears on its own over the curing period. Don't press on the bubbles; let them dry out.
Automotive window film is normally installed on the inside surface of the glass, where it is protected from weather and road debris.
Use a soft microfiber cloth and a tint-safe cleaner. Avoid abrasive tools, and ask the installer which products they recommend for your specific film.
Yes. The shop can help you balance appearance, privacy, heat control, visibility, and California's tint laws before installation.
